Yes, I too was trying to figure out what was up. And the funny thing (or what shows us what a great filmmaker Hitch was) is that I'd seen the movie before....it just sucked me in anew.....

slade...don't you mean Midge? Anyway, I did watch the Euro ending and felt the same way...it detracted from the hopeless feeling you get from watching Scotty's reaction (his whole stance, the arms out, palms up, head drooping....all signs of hopelessness and despair!). I think it was a 'feel-good' tack on, to show that Gavin didn't 'get away with it'. Totally unneccessary, getting away with murder (or not) wasn't what the movie was about....
