This doesn't make sense to me. If it's wearing out at all, then keeping it in the same position will wear it out the fastest because it continues to wear out at where it's already worn. (Bleh, what a hrrid sentence to read/say). Switching its position to start wearing at a new spot will prolong how long until it wears out in my estimation.
