Yeah, the "director's cut" is the original,l unaltered theatrical version. Anything else is just created for Blockbuster and Hollywood Video (stores you should only rent at if you support film censorship). As far as I'm concerned, an R-rated cut doesn't exist.
I think the reason people don't remember the "ass-to-ass" sequence is becuase the climactic point of the film (where it is located) is so incredibly intense it's difficult to make out what's going on. I've seen the film countless times, so I know just about every single shot in the picture.
