I'm guessing MP has little if anything to do with NGC sales in Japan. For one, I don't think it's even out over there. Also, there's a reason that we've been waiting so long for this game. Nintendo is a Japanese company, and apparently, Metroid has never been very popular over there. That's also why it was turned over to an American developer, released here first, etc.
Zelda on the other hand....
