So, after all this time I finally went out and got myself a surround system - I had a choice (restricted by finances) to either a Sony or Kenwood (both $299). I finally went with the Kenwood as it had more ooomph (but no powered sub-woofer) but it also had ProLogic II so it looked like I'd get a few more years out of the receiver.
Anyway, realistically I know there are better sounding setups out there but to my ears this sounds f***ing fantastic! I've spent the last few hours pulling out all the demo discs that have been recommended through the hundreds of "what's your favourite a/v demo" threads that litter the File. My favourite so far... either the beach landing in Saving Private Ryan (especially the underwater bits) or when Sauron implodes (?) at the beginning of FOTR (DTS baby!
Anyway, my son is bugging me to watch Gladiator so I don't want to let the little guy down
