Judge him not too harshly...he did ensure that the original version of
E.T. would be on the 2-disc DVD.
I believe
Schindler's List is still Spielberg's most personal project, and I'm sure he'll make sure it's treated properly. I hope that whatever happens, the original version will be available. I don't imagine there's too much room for CGI enhancements, here; I would think it would be more of a
Close Encounters-type situation. Of course, the original version
Close Encounters, didn't really represent Spielberg's original wishes, even for the time it was released. I think with
Schindler, he was able to do what he wanted. If he wants to make a longer version, great, but I hope the original is preserved as well.
I may not agree with all of Spielberg's decisions, but you can't say he doesn't respect his fans.
