He's having brown-outs caused by the refrigerator on the same circuit.

Either plug them into different circuits or get a good UPS, or line conditioner and plug the DVD, monitor and receiver into it.

A surge suppressor alone will probably not solve the problem but would protect the gear from the power spikes when the compressor cycles off. A UPS or line conditioner will have surge suppression included.
