OOP Criterion Commentary Tracks
As a fan of "acedemic" DVD releases I was wondering about OOP Criterion DVD and Laserdiscs. I ask because after these releases go OOP they simply are impossible to find and go to the world of ebay to become unobtainable.
Since Criterion has stated that it's exclusive special features will only be put out on their label. This is true even for titles that CC loses the licensing. Is there any hope of other companies somehow aquiring special bonus material?
Since the stereotype of CC is that they are a "non-profit" type company, could this be a new revenue stream for them? This could give them the resources to do further releases, or use features as a bargaining chip to aquire licensing on catalogue movies.
I'm also wondering if LD commmentary tracks have contractual rules about appearing on DVDs. Would the actors/directors have upset agents that object or ask for compensation.
Do you mind listening to a 10+ year old commentary track? Do audio comments by deceased members of hollywood entice you to buy a DVD movie?
Will the studios ever consider using other companies work for bonus footage and could this affect thier public perception.
Is anybody else here interested?
