I'm not sure how much time went into beta testing. I can say that on-line play is still buggy after three patches.

If you are just getting it just for single player, I have a feeling you're going to be disappointed. I've only played a few multiplayer games - but this is where the game shines. The single player portion of the game is almost more like a long training simulation to prepare you for playing with people. The single player game has virtually nothing for story and it slowly introduces units. I found the single player game to be extremely easy, and I completed it in a few days (a total of about 8 hours).

If you aren't planning on playing multiplayer - I'm not sure I would recommend this game. Just FYI.
