anyone here ever play Sega GT 2002? I am thinking about getting it also.
|
SEGA GT 2002 is good, if you like Gran Tursimo-style games. Note that both it and JSRF comes free with XBOX if you buy the $199 package - you should buy the new package if you want SGT2002 since a refurb XBOX + SGT would cost you $213, while a new xbox with the SGT/JSRF bundle would cost you $199.

I know for sure that I am getting a copy of Morrowind

Yeh, that's one of the best games of 2002, if not the best. If you want, PM me with your genre of interest and I can recommend some titles. Since you mentioned racing and shooting games, I'll list those below.

Halo will come to for sure. Any other ideas to throw out for me.
I like racing Shooting games (don't really care for RPG unless it is like morrowind.
Ruined can you help me?

My racing picks:
1. Project Gotham Racing ($19.99)
The first racing game released for XBOX, and still the best racing game on XBOX. A game that is difficult at first, but becomes incredible once you learn how to play. A racing game that actually requires skill, which is rare.
2. Burnout ($29.99)
The most fun arcade-style racer on XBOX, with great crash sequences. The sequel will be out in May 2003.
4. motoGP ($49.99, free demo with XBOX Live)
IMO, one of the best motorcycle racing games of all time. The sequel will be out in June 2003.
4. Rallisport Challenge ($19.99)
The most fun rally racer since the original SEGA RALLY. It really gets you in the rally spirit, though it is arcade oriented and does not follow the conventions of rally racing (you race with a pack of cars, arcade-style handline, etc). Although, it turns out to be a load more fun than the sim-oriented Colin McRae Rally 3, which is also available. But I'd go with Rallisport unless you are a diehard sim fan.
5. Apex ($49.99)
Sort of like Ridge Racer, except you get to create your own car style (although its really more like picking from a bunch of prefab designs). Though the create-a-car aspect is not up to par, the actual racing is quite good, with Ridge Racer style gameplay. (FYI if you are a Ridge Racer fan, the next RR is coming to XBOX probably sometime in 2004)
6. SEGA GT 2002 ($29.99, full game free with $199 XBOX bundle)
XBOX's version of Gran Turismo. Cool game, with the familiar get money to upgrade your car to win races to get more money to upgrade your car etc gameplay. Pretty good, but not the best XBOX racing title.
7. Quantum Redshift ($19.99)
Fantastic futuristic racer - probably one of the fastest ever released. Great gameplay, cool boards, awesome weapons. Worth picking up for futuristic racing fans.
8. Splashdown ($29.99)
Nice waverunner game. Actually feels like you are controlling a waverunner, a feeling most other waverunner games lack. Graphics are bland, but its the gameplay that makes this game fun.
9. Mad Dash ($19.99)
Fun racing game where the racers run on foot. Lots of humor, expansive tracks, and fun.
10. NASCAR Thunder 2003 ($49.99)
Best NASCAR game on XBOX, but will likely be surpassed by a better online NASCAR game within the next 6-10 months,
11. F1 Career Challenge & Indycar Series ($49.99 ea)
F1 Career Challenge is EA's latest F1 game, and Indy Car Series is codemaster's shot at F1 racing. Will be interesting to see who comes out on top. EA's F1 2001 for XBOX, which is currently available, is only fair graphically, but has a pretty good sim F1 game under the hood.
Shooter picks
1. Halo ($49.99)
Duh. Best FPS game.
1. Panzer Dragoon Orta ($49.99)
Third person rail shooter where you fly on a dragon and kill enemies with lasers, scifi style.
2. Dead to Rights ($49.99)
Good cop gone bad due to the death of a loved one. Like Max Payne, except much harder and more fun.
3. Defender ($19.99)
Remake of the classic arcade game defender. A space shooter where you have to save civilians from attacking aliens without getting killed yourself.
4. House of the Dead III ($49.99)
Light gun shooter, where you have to blow away zombies with your MadCatz Blaster ($39.99/ea). Game does not require light gun, but is much more fun with it.
5. Gunvalkyrie ($24.99)
Third person scifi shooter. Kind of like Starship Troopers the game.
6. Nightcaster ($19.99)
Action/adventure shooter, where you can run in one direction and fire off spells in any other direction, like Robotron or Smash TV. Collecting spells/items also a big part of gameplay. Sequel to this game isn't so hot.
7. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon ($49.99)
Control an elite squad of soliders that will go into situations with crazy odds on top. A navy seals style game. Supports XBOX Live multiplayer.
8. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell ($49.99)
You are Sam Fischer, a one man killing machine. Complete missions by sneaking around and killing people undetected.
9. Unreal Championship ($24.99)
Fast paced FPS deathmatch/CTF. Supports XBOX Live multiplayer.
10. Medal of Honor: Frontline ($49.99)
It's World War 2, and you get dumped on the beach. Good luck.
11. Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance ($24.99)
Another one man killing machine game, but this one is more like a comic book than the more realistic Splinter Cell.
12. Serious Sam ($19.99)
Crazy, funny FPS game that is reminiscent of Doom. Unfortunately there is a bad batch floating around so if your copy doesnt work return it for another.
13. Max Payne ($19.99)
Good cop gone bad due to the death of a loved one. Similar to Dead to Rights, but slower paced and easier.
14. Spy Hunter ($19.99)
Graphics aren't so hot, but it combines racing and shooting so it's probably right up your alley. Remake of arcade classic.
15. Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast ($49.99)
Star Wars FPS game.
Other sorta-shooters
1. MechAssault ($49.99)
You play a giant mech and destroy the entire landscape, along with rival mechs. Arcade style action. Supports XBOX Live multiplayer.
2. Steel Battalion ($199.99 new (HTF), $250 - $450 on eBay)
You play a giant mech, and actually feel like you are piloting it with a controller that is 3 times the size of the XBOX. Simulation style action that requires a good knowledge of how the game and controller works.
3. Air Force Delta Storm (OOP, $55 - $75 on eBay)
Essentially the old Top Gun that you played on NES, translated to next-gen graphics.
4. Star Wars Starfighter ($19.99)
You fly an episode 1 starfighter and kill bad guys. Fun if you like space games.
5. Star Wars Jedi Starfighter ($39.99)
You fly an episode 2 starfigher and kill bad guys, plus now you have jedi powers to assist you in shooting them down. Fun if you liked the original Starfigher.
OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF
If you have broadband, buy XBOX Live ($49.99) and join Live Nights. It's the best part of XBOX.
When buying an extra controller, make sure to get Microsoft brand, the rest suck. Most prefer the smaller Controller S.
You do not need a memory card, since all saved games go on the hard drive. That is, unless you want to take saved games to a friends house.
When hooking the XBOX to your home theater, make sure to get a microsoft AV pack - advanced AV pack for SVIDEO, or high definition AV pack for component video. Other AV packs dont look as nice or dont support realtime 5.1, which is excellent on XBOX.
