I didn't think of 80's teen movies at all either. As a matter of fact I didn't really enjoy this movie that much. I rarely laughed and wasn't really emotionally moved by the story either.
In my opinion there was a lot more comedy and heart in the 80's teen movies.
I'm not saying The Girl Next Door was a bad movie, just saying I didn't care much for it.
