I'm not familiar with the DVP642 and I presume by "optical out" you mean an optical digital audio (or toslink) output, correct? Tons of DVD players have optical digital audio outputs so I wouldn't worry too much about that BUT the "auto play" feature might be hard to find.
What is your budget and why do you wanna swap out the Zenith?
