How much will the PlayStation 3 cost?
Unknown at this point, though Sony guru Ken Kutaragi has stated that "It will be expensive" -- so it will almost certainly be more than the sweet-spot launch price of $299. In a recent interview with Japanese economic website Tokyo Keizai, Kutaragi said the company wants "for consumers to think to themselves 'I will work more hours to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else."
...
also, the first Playstation was Yen 39800 when it released in OCT of 1994 ($400)
By July of the following year PlayStaion was dropped to (Yen 29800) and the US launch in SEPT of '95 was $300 or $350 with Ridge Racer.
I think PS3 will be around $400, but i don't know.
As for the $500 figure-this would be the usual Best Buy or Amazon.com price, also known as the ever infamous launch bundles, and would include an extra controller, HD A/V cables, and accessories.
