What about some of our favorite bands that have enjoyed longevity in the buisness, though having say, some personnel changes, label switching (which can very much change the original vibe in many ways), changing with the times (going semi-electronic)? Many bands of many genres have done this. Much as I love Earth Wind, & Fire, and Chicago, when the 80's rolled along, sure the music got a bit mellow, and watered down, but I don't think it tarnished the great work they did in the 70's. The Stones haven't had any great music for 30 years (this is debatable, I know), but I don't think Steel Wheels or the recent release put a black eye on their vast catalog. "Secret Majesties Request" remains a fantastic album, regardless.
I am a huge fan of the Omen Trilogy, and Final Conflict (Omen 3) got some so-so reviews, as did the sequel. So what, they're still good on they're own merit. And the 4th version tv installment, woo boy.
Now if you choose to buy the box set of the complete series, it's your money, but you have a choice. Be a completist, as many of you claim to be, but if you do, you really don't have much of an arguement about parts 2-3, and so on, if it's sitting in your collection alongside the original. If you don't want pickles on your Whopper, you have a choice not to have pickles.
Incidentally, I DO look forward to the Omen remake.
