DVD File Home Theater glossary

Greetings to you all. In yet another effort to come up with ways to help this forum best cater to all who visit it, I've come up with the 'DVD File Home Theater glossary'. Ok, Vonner really came up with the glossary idea but it was my concept.

We've got the forum FAQ which contains some great information but I felt this forum needed a place where newbies could get definitions of the various acronyms and terms the more experienced folk toss about in various discussions. This thread is intended to serve that purpose.

Originally, I was going to simply post definitions people could read but I realized I was simply copying them from another site so why not simply link to the site and use this thread for further discussion and clarification of the various defined terms.

So, HERE is the base glossary. Some of the definitions aren't 100% accurate, but we can expand on those definitions here. For example, here is the defintion of a "Rear Projection TV":

Quote:
Rear-Projection
Type of television where an image is projected from the rear of the television cabinet onto a screen at the front. The two most popular types of rear-projection TVs are based on one of two technologies - LCD or DLP.
Of course, CRT based units are still popular even though they are being phased out in favor of the newer fixed-pixel technologies.

In any event, please feel free to contribute to this as you deem necessary.

Peace...
