The news of this release was actulally confirmed a few weeks back by The Hollywood Reporter (sorry to burst your bubble there, man.)
It's going to be Disney Digital 3-D in regular theaters -- the same proces they used for the 3-D engagements of Chicken Little last year. (Thankfully, too -- can you imagine how much the red/blue glasses 3-D would ruin this wonderfully stylized, darkly lit film?)
As such, it will be limited release only to theaters that have the technolegy to accomidate such a digital 3-D release; however, it should still be wide enough for everybody to see it if they're willing to look around a bit (I believe two theaters within a 40 mile radius of me got Chicken Little in this format.) Release date is October 20th, just in time for Halloween (surprise

!)
This is one of my favorite movies of all time, so I can't wait!
