I don't think the polar bear was supernatural. I mean, they're being held captive in a zoological research facility. If you do a little research into what the Hanso Foundation has done in the past, you'll see they've done animal studies.
So, the polar bear was just a resident of the research facility, that got out.
As for the black fog. Indeed, I want to know what the hell that thing is. The previews for next week almost make it look like we see Eko getting attacked by it.
Or, it might be something else.

We've suspected that's who it was since last season. I could have sworn they even told Rousseau about her when they trecked off to the medical facility.
