I think you are confused. The receivers out today don't understand the new audio formats, obviously, so the player has to do any decoding or conversion. I believe the HD-A1 would convert Dolby TrueHD to dts before outputting via coax/toslink and I have no idea what the PS3 can do.
If the player outputs digital audio, it has to produce the digital output. At this point, only the players understand the new formats so how could the A/V receiver do any downmixing or conversion from the
new audio format to DD or dts?
I think you mean the player will downmix Dolby TrueHD to DD or dts and output that via coax/toslink to his current receiver and that will still sound good anyway.
