I don't usually post in this thread, but I wanted to extoll the virtues of my latest love:
New Super Mario Bros. for Nintendo DS
This game is just... it's basically my childhood, upgraded with some spiffy new graphics and features to ensure the rose-colured glasses stay rose coloured, and re-packaged into a tiny DS cartridge.
I love everything about it. From the old-school gameplay, to the SMB3-style world map, to the graphical upgrades, to the new features (
giant Mario anyone?), to how Mario says "buy-bye" if I close the lid and go into standby mode.
It's simply brilliant, and most definitely a killerapp for the DS (which doesn't really need any killerapps.) If you loved the original games for the NES,
New Super Mario Bros. is definitely worth buying a DS for.

I agree. I look at achievements as the new version of trying to beat the high score in older games. I see nothing wrong with getting some extra mileage out of a game because you're trying to get an elusive achievement. It's fun to do, and that's what gaming is mostly about.
