on rotten tomatoes there's a little tidbit about the writer that gives me hope that this will be a great adaptation.
i never read the comics, mostly through the tv show, so my problem wasnt how close to the comics it was.
it was the 2 + hr. pacing of the film and the confusing nature of what was going on with his dad and how he turned into the creature of lightining or whatever.
if it just had been him turning into the hulk, the army learning of him and chasing him down, and him fighting, that would'a been great. But, there was no real nemesis in the film, and the one that was was not well explained.
I also love character origin stories, good guy and bad guy, because they give the evil doers a purpose, plus ahint as to how they can be defeated.
This movie really didnt have any of that except him getting gamma-rayed.
This is an important movie because in my mind there are the big four of comics- (not in this order, based on mainstream appeal)
Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and the Hulk. A very close 4a is X-men.
With the first Hulk movie failing in critical acclaim and at the box office for a summer blockbuster, it really needs to reestablish itself with the mainstream movie going audience, and kids.
Hopefully the memory of Ang Lees flick wont still be in peoples mind and deter them from seeing this.
(my opinion is that this initially hurt Batman Begins until people started spreading word of how good and different a film it was. Now that its hit video and HBO, I think more people love it and anticipate the 2nd flick)
