Well, if it isn't too integrated into your room yet, I'd go and put the sub at your listening location and then walk around to all of the possible sub locations around your room and listen.
I'll bet that your room is squarish and your listening area is in the middle?
The phase controll is very important. The easiest way to set this is to have a friend adjust the phase switch or dial as you listen.
