Mainstream is not always a good thing. Sure, it usually means lower prices, but it also usually means lower quality. Back in the laser disc days if you got a commentary track it was because the film deserved it or someone actually had something to say. Now with DVD, where doing a commentary is usually just one of the parts of making the film and they're often recorded before the film even comes out, we wind up with actors telling us what they had for lunch that day on set or that they really liked such and such person. And instead of real documentaries we get EPK fluff. The dumbing down of dvd is one of the things that make me miss the laserdisc days. Yeah, it's nice to only have to pay $19.99 for a uber special edition disc instead of $189, but as they saying goes, you get what you pay for.
