So, my dad has the Bose Acoustimass 10 series II system for his home theater speakers. (That link is to the series IV system) He's using an old JVC A/V receiver to drive them and I got his digital audio connections setup about 2 weeks ago so he could get more performance from his gear.

He's wanting better audio performance from his HT and I'm wanting him to replace his speaker system. The A/V receiver also needs to be replaced, but that's another thread of discussion.

So, he spent about $900 (I'm guessing) on the speaker system many moon ago. For $900 today, what you recommend for a 5.1 replacement? If possible, what about a 7.1 arrangement?
