Here's an idea. Look for a tall, relatively thin, blown speaker with wood cabinet for sale cheap at yard sale or thrift store. Make sure it is as tall as your set is wide, and also about the same depth or so.
Take off the front cover, speakers and the front wooden platform. Turn it on it's side and you then have yourself a sturdy TV platform with components and speaker area. Glue old cloth on bottom or use those stick-on green velvet circles to protect the dresser. Cut access openings and paint as you see fit. Just as funky as a missing drawer.
