Well, being that I’m a fan of the original comic—and that the DVD was only $12—I decided to go against my better judgment and give this a blind buy. Mistake! I guess it was unfair to expect anything close to
Mask of the Phantasm, but the production value of
Superman: Doomsday looks more like a second rate TV show. The animation is lackluster at best with an extremely irritating frame rate (does
Justice League look this poor?). The whole production just looks cheap. The Doomsday fight is pretty good, but it doesn’t last long enough to make the whole film worthwhile.
Making matters worse is the sub-par sound design and voice acting. Adam Baldwin does okay as Supes, but Anne Heche blows as Lois. She sounds like she’s looping a soap opera.
Give this a rent first if you’re thinking about buying, or just skip it.
