Well for my PS3 i can only select the direct or multichannel only. For some reason i don't get that with my HD-A1 connection. I don't know if its because i had to download the 5.1 TrueHD firmware patch for the HD-A1 and the new players come with it already built in.
Maybe i need to buy a new player

Regular Dolby Digital Plus will indeed only need the 40-55 range really. The TrueHD track on the other hand needs that extra bit of volume as it really is that much quieter
Now i have a question. Do you think running a passive subwoofer in the same connection as my Surround Right Speaker is ok on the system. I have an old passive sub from my original HTiB kit (which i don't use) I did try this setup for a bit with my back surrounds and added some great LFE to 300 HD-DVD, but i'm worried that it might cause harm to the system over time.
