Exactly, looking at the THX DVD of Evil Dead 2, it's just about the best presentation in terms of the film looking as natural as it can on DVD and far from shitty looking IMO. The problem is Anchor Bay eventually goes overboard, most likely because they listen to fans and the fans don't necessarily know best for the film, like the dumbasses who cry about film grain.

1999 THX DVD:

2003 Book of the Dead DVD (source used for the Blu-ray):

No one can tell me the 2003 presentation is superior and/or closer to the source than the THX DVD. The only way the BoTD DVD could be closer is if 35mm film produced milky brown hues, almost no fine detail, and wasn't based on a chemical reaction for processing that produces visible grain structure. Anchor Bay ruined the film's chances of looking up to snuff on a eventual HD release in 2003. Of course, many people assume the Blu-ray is the best it can ever look because "hey, it's a low budget '80s flick, whadda expect?" Which is a completely flawed logic to take.
