Martin Logan subs are designed to be used with electrostatic speakers, primarily for music listening. They are not designed for hard-hitting bass of home theater, they are designed to fill in the lower mids and lows that electrostatic speakers are missing. Does the Martin Logan sub have builtin room EQ? If not, I wouldn't buy it, because the room plays a more important part than the specs of the sub, and only a sub with builtin room EQ calibration/correction & microphone to measure with can compensate for that. And no, Audyssey or other AVR EQ cannot make up for a sub with builtin EQ - they are clown shoes in comparison.
Velodyne designs hard-hitting subs for home theater. The Velodyne SPL-1200R has room-correction. I'd bet my HD DVD player it will sound better in your actual room than the ML you are considering.
