I've read articles saying that studios make 70-80% profit off the wholesale price, because the residuals are so low to writers and actors (not sure what the residuals are to directors).

So if a DVD has a $29.95 MSRP, the wholesale price is about $17-18. So the studios make about $12-14 per disc.
