The TV derb is mentioning should be the Sharp Aquos LC-46D92U (not sure if it'll fit in your price range though), my friend has the 52" version and it is astounding how good it is for an lcd. It would be probably better than the Sony (haven't seen that Sony so can't say for sure). It's got the 120hz processing, a 4ms response time which helps when gaming, it's got a special backlight system which improves its colour depth, it's very bright (450 cm/m2) so can be used in almost any room, and has 3 hdmi, 2 component, and 1 dvi-i input - all 1080p. Oh and it's got a native 3000:1 contrast ratio (dynamic is 15000:1).
That would be my pick.
