I've been thinking of picking up the Panasonic DMP-BD30.
Best Buy has it on Friday for $475 after tax + 5 free in-store Blu-Ray movies (and of course the 5 mail-aways). Now if those 5-free in store movies are ANY 5 free movies (and it appears they are), that is a pretty decent deal. Amazon has the player cheaper shipped ($409), but 5 free new-release movies is about a $120 value even at Amazon level 30%-off pricing. That would make it ~$355 effectively, since I would buy 5 new release movies anyway when I got a BD player.
It would give me a temp player and the only caveats are that it is crippled audiowise and that it doesn't have BD-Live. However, if the DMP-BD50 comes out before April or if it is less than $500 I will feel like an asshat for not being able to wait 3 mos. But based on Panasonic's comments and the fact that the DMP-BD30 only came out a few months ago makes me think that these players will functionally be similar, and from what I've read the BD30 is laggy in menus and transitions (not nearly as smooth as the HD DVD standalones); so I probably wouldn't be entirely satisfied with the BD50 either, I'm guessing.
