I'm wondering if I should just buy the game for the guitar, or the set for everything. I don't have friends to play along with, but I'd love to do drums and vocals myself(the latter when no one is around lol). I assume it lets you do any one of them solo?

The rock band strat sucks a** compared to the GH 3 Gibson. However it does have its uses. Some people really like it. The only things I like about it are the whammy bar and the effects switch I guess you could call it. However the RB strat WILL NOT work with the Guitar Hero games due to the mapping of the buttons. The GH Gibson will work with RB and so will the GH 2 X-plorer, I much more prefer the Gibson. The drums and the mic are well worth picking up the whole set.
There are very few covers in RB. Out of the 45 songs that come in the game (not including downloadable content) 7 of them are covers. The only really grating one is Tom Sawyer. Oddly the Rushs' Limelight which is a downloadable song is also a cover but is not nearly as bad as Tom Sawyer.
Harmonix is releasing about 3 new songs for DL a week (Tuesdays) the total count for DLC songs is at 38. WAY better than the crap Red Octane is serving up for GH3. Plus the tracks are cheaper and you get 4 instrument tracks.
The $169 you pay for the whole package is again well worth it. If you do even get 1 friend over to play I guarantee there will be word of mouth that you have this awesome game and people will love playing it.
