You are exactly right my friend. Once I did your settings, I stopped noticing the panning issue.
However, the settings I tried from you still didn't seem right. So I tried one from the AVS thread on settings to see if I could get a better fit. This one seemed a bit better, though I modified the sharpness...

This one seemed to be pretty good. I might try a few more, especially with a blu-ray disc or hd-dvd movie. Currently I have tried this with just HD TV programming. The settings I have are pretty damn good. The blacks are so nice and inky. I am pretty happy with my purchase so far.
