Not even remotely in the same league as the Reon/XA2/HD805.
In terms of upscaling I'd say its worse than the HD-A35's, but probably on par with a decent standard upscaling DVD player like the Oppo players.
I know this because according to Panasonic the BD50 is apparently going to use the same upscaling as the BD30. In fact I've heard in many areas the BD50 is virtually identical to the BD30, with the exceptions of the LFE fix, audio codec decoding features, analog outs, and BD2.0 features. Thats a lot of exceptions, but fixes and extras aside the core player functionality itself is apparently nearly the same as the BD30. Essentially they took the BD30, fixed its problems, and built a bunch of new features around it.
