Nope nothing has changed for me. The only thing i guess i would say is i wish it allowed me to enable the surround back center channels to play for my PCM tracks. The 605 receiver can't do this but the 705 and up can. Othe rthen that though i have no real complaints for the receiver

Will the newer Onkyo receivers or any receiver allow HDMI cables to be used and pass a signal to the tv without the receiver being on? The reason I ask is that with my cable box I can get audio to the tv via red and white cables or to the receiver via optical. I don't want to have to run the receiver everytime I want to watch just the tv. I would love to get rid of the rats nest of cables that I have.

You would need the receiver to be on in order to hear and see the picture on screen. You coud buy a HDMI switcher box that can be left on all the time. It acts like a receiver to switch between your devices without worry of the receiver being used. If not you can keep going with your wired setup now as the receiver with the HDMI connection will reduce the number of cables in the back. Or if you have 2 HDMI connections on your TV just use one from the cable box to the tv (use an optical cable to receiver for when you want to use it) So the 2nd input can be used for the receiver output
