Whatever guesses we have been making about how the island works, all have in some way been explainable through some sort of "modern science". I don't think the writers are going to use time travel i the sense of Back to the Future. Only Desomond's conciousness is what traveled and its only him. I do think the time travel let us in on some clues as to the bigger picture of the show

I read some theories that have him coming up with the race around the world to see if he could not only find the island but send Des there to get rid of him. I think there is more to Widmore then what we're being shown |
