In May of 2008, it is one of the few profile 2.0 players out there, and one of the few players that can decode dts-hdma. Bitstreaming audio and direct source output are irrelevant to me.
You don't ever plan to upgrade to a receiver with DCDi or better yet Reon/Realta/ABT deinterlacing? If so, lack of direct source output for both DVDs and 1080i BDs becomes a very sore point. For those of us who do have receivers with those processors or external scalers, it already is a sore point.

Point being, PS3 aside, the BD50 should at least include Direct Source for $699 since the Uniphier proved so terrible in the BD30 - but there has been no word of this by Panasonic. Luckily I have a nice HTPC setup to hold me over until a great standalone with the features I want comes along.
