If the Denon is connected with toslink, the DACs within it are not being used. The question is how the DACs in the DB80K compare to those in the Rotel receiver.

I would audition the two, but I can tell you, if we didn't have a Squeezebox for a primary music source (i.e. All music is stored on a "server",) I would have either kept the old CD changer or old DVD player connected. I would simply find our Panasonic BD35 too slow to load and etc... for CDs. Well, unless CDs load faster in it than DVD and BR (never tried it.)

I did have a similar dilemma when I got the Squeezebox. The question was whether to connect digitally (toslink or coax) or analog. I tried both, and found that I prefer the sound of the DAC in the Yamaha RX-V1300 receiver over the Burr Brown DAC in the Squeezebox. I can't tell you which is better, but I can tell you which one I prefer.
