The director of the film is a guy named
Hoyt Yeatman. This is actually his feature directorial debut. He's been the special effects supervisor on a ton of other films, like Armegeddon, Christmas Vacation, and Con Air. So, we know the special effects will probably be superb for the film.
And it's really funny you guys mention the Kangaroo Jack comparison (which I completely see as well.) He was the special effects supervisor on that film too! So I bet some of his motivation for G-force definitely came from Kangaroo Jack.
As far as the 3-D goes, I've heard a few other cases of it giving people a headache. I saw Up in 3-D and thought it looked amazing!, so I'll definitely be checking this one out in 3-D, but the film will be screened in regular 2-D projection as well, so you if the 3-D bothers you, you can check out the 2-D one.
