Perfect! For less than $200, it's a "no brainer" for me.

Peace....

I'll try to pick it up tonight or tomorrow. I'll report back with my findings, doctors.

This is odd. I just hooked my A1 up via the coax to do an A/B test. There was plenty of LFE when using the coax, but it sounded terrible.

Iggy, I tried the PLUS setting and it didn't make a difference.

Yes. I wanted to hear the downconverted DTS to compare the LFE.

No, only on stuff like Camcorders, Cameras, Computers, and radar detectors...stuff people would try to "rent" ;0

The LFE bug is only on the 5.1 analog inputs...it won't show up on Coax or Optical digital input...

Well, I ended up not getting the Sony. It seems I misread the specs because it only had HDMI (no analogs). So, back to square one.

Now I just have to decide whether or not to spend the extra money for the prettier 82.

VSX-81TXV

I honestly dont get you PH.

For $400 more than what seems to be the going price of that 82TXS, you could have this: A Killer Sub

I'm lost and done with your reasonings but still love ya!

And please, the ML ain't gonna touch this thing. You can also sit back and wait for the Pio' that does have 1.3 and the newer audio formats.

Allow me to help you "get" me, Iggy.

Q: Why is Pirate buying a AVR before a Subwoofer?
A: Because Pirate is watching a lot of HD DVD and has almost no LFE. Pirate misses his LFE and the only way to get the LFE back is to get a new AVR.

Q: Is Pirate unaware that his current subwoofer blows monkey ass?
A: No. Pirate is well-aware, but at least with DVD, the combination of his shitty sub and his excellent front speakers give the illusion of real bass.

Q: Why would Pirate not buy that Velodyne sub?
A: For one thing Pirate doesn’t need 1000 watts. His HT is simply not that big. Also, Pirate feels the Martin Logan is the way to go, because he has demoed the sub and was very impressed. Pirate also doesn’t want to exceed $1k for the sub.

There. Does that clear things up.

So that is that? Ok. I get ya. I think.

"MY PARENTS ARE DEADDDDDDDD!"

And by the way, the 82 is prettier, so yeah!

Makes sense to me and I too was wondering. My vote goes for the 82 also. It has a cleaner look to it you know slicker.

I got a new component rack last night, so I had to dismantle my gear and then rewire everything. While I was at it, I decided to spend a few hours trying to squeeze a tad more LFE out for HD DVD. And, amazingly, I did. Now, it’s still not enough to get excited about, but it may allow me to put off the new receiver in favor of a sub (or BD player). That’ll make Iggy happy.

What I ended up doing was turning the speakers down in the A1 setup menu to -3. I then turned the sub up in the AVR menu to +7. I’m not sure why that worked over the -10 in the A1, but… whatever.

Interesting. I would also like to know why that worked.

I also vote for the 82, since I like that "Elite" front plate.

Peace...

Well, that's the question now. Do I still get the receiver or do I appease Iggy and get the sub.

They are actually about the same price.

I would get the sub. When Pioneer releases receivers with built-in decoders for Dolby TrueHD, etc., then you can evaluate your receiver purchase options. If you still like the 82, you can get that at a lower price than you will pay now.

Get the sub.

Peace....

Yep, and since he doesn't need, hehehe, the 15 incher, get the 12" Velo.

If he's still hellbent on that ML, I am not appeased.

But hey...it's a start!

Is it that particular ML sub you don't like or the ML brand in general?

EDIT: Maybe this receiver issue relates in some way to PH's previous SVS experience.

Peace...

Why don't you like the ML, Iggy? Martin Logan, from what I've heard, makes great speakers. Is it that it doesn't have as many watts as the Velo? Didn't we already talk about watts being a bit of a marketing ploy?

Tom, I've never heard the ML, so I wouldn't know what to think of it!

I was pushing the Velo along with his 'appease' me thing half heartedly.

However, it would be nice if he at least heard the 12" Velo. My 'gut' tells me it would be more impressive. Sometimes I go with 'gut'.

The ML is also a 12" sub. And, if I don't like it, I can always return it and try out the Velo.

Thanks for understanding my early evening posts vs. my early am ones.

Are there any mid-hi stores in your area to check out the Velo series? Just curious.

EDITED: Watts being a marketing ploy? Where did we discuss this?

They closed Tweeter and that just leaves Magnolia and HHGregg (as well as BB and CC), so I'm not sure.
