For me as well given that I'm looking to get a new PJ and subwoofer. For some reason, I'm nervous this time around when it comes to AVR's. I don't want to end up with a $1300 machine with the same "hiccups" as the HD-A1. I want to know that the receiver I buy will last.

I saw the Pioneer VSX-92TXH at Magnolia today. Sooooo pretty. I'm starting not to care about the THX specs.

What? I was saying I'd like to get a 92. Right now I only have the 52.

Dude, I'm NOT trying to blow my windows out. My (now dead) receiver was MORE than adequate at 90w x 5, even with whatever "clipping" it might have done.

Speaking of "clipping"...

Peace...

I would recommend getting the Onkyo. Not only will it decode DTS-HDMA whenever you get a capable player, but Onkyo receivers in general are cleaner sounding than Pioneer receivers (even Elite models). If you are hard pressed in a specific amount of power, get the Onkyo 705 (3 HDMI inputs, 110 WPC, and THX processing).

The Onkyo 605 also uses the Audyssey automatic setup which measures 3 separate listening points in the room, not just one, to create a balanced sweetspot for all listeners. The 705 and 805 have the ability to measure 9 listening positions.

I think you will be blown away by the sound quality that Onkyo is able to achieve at their price points.

I've been eyeing the 605 myself...just waiting for a nice sale to get it a bit cheaper.

I guess I could demo the 705 and see what I think. I don't love the look of it like I love the look of the Elite, but sound is priority one. And $700 is a much better price than $1300.

This could be a good in the meantime amp until I can afford an Integra or Elite model. And I could put the extra cash towards a sub so Iggy will shut the &%$*! up about it.

My ELITE is 110w. I wonder if I'll miss those extra 10w with the 100w Onkyo.

I would venture to say no. I specifically remember early on when I bought my 24TX Elite that it's rated power of 90 wpc was in fact 70-75 wpc with all channels driven. So...the real question is, are the Onkyo specs closer to their claimed wpc's versus the Elites.

Also, will the Onkyo mate with your Axioms better than your Elite.

More questions...I know.

Please do post your findings. I've been very happy with my Pioneer Elite receiver, up until it died. I almost pulled the trigger on an Onkyo receiver, I forget the model, until I found the VSX-24TX and I don't regret that purchase at all.

Peace...

Martin Logan subs are designed to be used with electrostatic speakers, primarily for music listening. They are not designed for hard-hitting bass of home theater, they are designed to fill in the lower mids and lows that electrostatic speakers are missing. Does the Martin Logan sub have builtin room EQ? If not, I wouldn't buy it, because the room plays a more important part than the specs of the sub, and only a sub with builtin room EQ calibration/correction & microphone to measure with can compensate for that. And no, Audyssey or other AVR EQ cannot make up for a sub with builtin EQ - they are clown shoes in comparison.

Velodyne designs hard-hitting subs for home theater. The Velodyne SPL-1200R has room-correction. I'd bet my HD DVD player it will sound better in your actual room than the ML you are considering.

I'll take that bet! I listened to the ML a couple weeks ago, and I gotta tell you, it sounded fantastic. Dunno if it was as good as the REL I installed yesterday, but you know...

PH, pick up both and let us know...I want Ruineds HD DVD Player

Come on now J', lets keep it apples to apples. The RELs are oranges IMHO to this ML vs. Velo' debate.

(you must be having a blast installing shit like the REL's! I'm jealous dude!)

I believe I saw one of these at the Magnolia inside my local BestBuy, along with the other siblings to this model. They ALL looked damned good!!! I was at BestBuy looking for an Onkyo receiver to check out but the Magnolia store only had Denon's, Yamaha's, and the Pioneer Elites.

Peace...

The Onkyo 705 is down to $585 at Amazon. Why are the prices dropping so fast on these?

From the looks of AVSFORUM, Onkyo hit a home run with their new series and is outselling the competition by far. I know this is the first time I've actually bought an Onkyo (Integra) processor despite admiring them in the past. So that being said, there are likely a ton in production and a ton to sell - resulting in lower prices.

Because they KNOW you are procrastinating?

That does seem a little strange given how little time they've been out.

Have there been any reviews on how these Onkyos handle upconversion or video processing via HDMI?

And, Ruined, how much is the Integra and what am I missing by going with the lower 705 model?
