Pirate needs a Sub before any other expenditures!

I do this from the kindness of my heart. I do. This is a serious situation that I feel is getting exponentially out of control.

Pirate needs a new sub, plain and simple.

After reading many threads and barely remembering them, it appears PH needs to do what is right by the hand of the Audio Gods. That to me is a new sub. A new sub should prioritize his needs at this point and nothing else.

So, I ask you fellow Filers to participate in smacking some sense into this boy. It's all for a good reason and all for sanctity. Sanctity? Meh...I can't even figure out why I used that word, but so be it.

Here we go.

I agree fully. I suggest an SVS.

The chance that PirateHat will break down and get a new sub? You do the math.

[Pirate walks into the room and asks nervously: "What are you all doing here?"]

I wholeheartedly agree that I need a new sub—and have needed one for some time. However, I watch a large amount of HD content and my current receiver—although brilliant with SD material—does not do a good job with analog bass management. This puts me in an awkward position. If I get a new sub, it’ll only be of use when watching SD-DVD. So, do I put the cart before the horse and get the sub or get a receiver that can utilize the sub?

The sub I want is $900. I just don't have that right now, so unless you want to suggest a kick-ass placeholder sub...

I guess I could go one notch down and get the Martin Logan Dynamo instead of the Abyss.

Try www.hsuresearch.com

I may pull the trigger in late August for the VTF 2 MK3 series. Thanks to all those here I have come to realize that speakers are an investment.

What I like about the Martin Logan subs is that they pack as much punch as a larger HSU, but are much smaller.

Did I really say *burp* that? If so, YAY!

For your sized room I do believe more surface area (inches) is better just like more cubic inches. That's just me though.

See your other sub related thread please.

That Velo is the same price as the ML. Why do you people wish to drive me from ML?!

I'm sure Velo is good, but the Abyss sounded awesome... and it's front and bottom firing.

Look man, I ain't trying to steer you away from the ML. Honest. I just think as I've stated before (and given what I know of you), that once in your room that lightweight compared to even the 8" Velo Ruined linked, aint gonna cut it. The little 8" comes in weighing 5lbs more than the ML. It's magnet weighs 13lbs by itself! Given the ML is a 10" woofer, I wonder what it's magnet assembly weighs (they dont list it)?

The ML doesn't know if it should be a front or down firing sub? Versatility or not tuned for one specific purpose? Does the ML have built in calibration? A 6band EQ? Your new sub is not a avr or dvd player that gets upgraded once every few years. SPEND SUB MONEY NOW!

Sorry...the beer is taking hold of me and .... meh. I'll do the math and simply concede.
