Sony Home Theatre System W/HDMI (HT-DDW990) ??????

Hi All,

If you remember me, I am the one who had a problem with the optical in jack on my Panasonic HT where it gave me an error message whenever a DTS feed was selected on an external system (PS3 or DVD Player).

(Original Optical Cable Issue thread).

Well, I had Best Buy check it out (4 yr service plan) and they returned it back to me stating no fault found. Well the problem still existed and I went back, they said since it was within 2 wks of the repair they would swap it for something new

Well I decided to with Sony Home Theatre System w/HDMI (HT-DDW990). The speaker are small but sound very powerful. I am no audio experts like some of you here but it they seem pretty darn good. For the audio now I have HDMI in from the PS3 and Optical In from the PS3, seems perfect. Thing I cant figure out and I dont think it exists for this system is that Lossless audio only works via HDMI right, and this system cant handle it? How can I found this out?

I know it doesnt have a DVD player with it but I talked BB into giving me one, so I chose the Pioneer Upconverting HDMI DVD Player With 1080P and DivX (DV-400V-K) with USB input and HMDI upconverting.

Also is it worth keep this this? Is it good for the amp portion alone? I didnt go with a 6.1 or 7.1 as some places I have read mention it not worth it right now

Very nice! Unfortunately though, it will not transfer PCM, because it only passes the hdmi signal on.

It could be .. but I returned it. The HDMI output was great but the DiVX playback kept freezing My store had a sale on the same Sony AMP with a reduced price plus a free Sony DVD player. Not upconverting but with DiVX, I ended up with that after returning the Pioneer. So far no problems and all DiVX files play perfectly, the player as well is very good.

For upconverting I will use my PS3.

huh, I am not really into DiVX so that hasn't been a problem for me, though I have read that that player actually was one of the current upconverters out there that have the least amount of problems.

That is why I bought it at first as well. Actually my very first DVD player was a Pioneer Upconversion wasnt really something I was looking for because of my PS3 but I thought Upconversion + DiVx = Cant Go Wrong. Unfortunetly, divx files kept freezing the player and I had to actually unplug the player and replug it back to get it to work again. Divx also didnt play properly via the USB port either Upconversion however .. Not enough though for me to warrant $172 for the player vs $Free
