Monster Bass cable question

is monster bass 550 cable of a higher quality than monster bass 400 ?

it looks a lot thicker

I need to replace my 25' Monster400 subwoofer cable with a 36ft version and I came across a Monster550 on eBay

You can get as good if not better from Blujeanscable.com for about 40% less.

Seriously though... the stuff from Bluejeanscables.com is just as good, but most likely better. I paid considerably less for the Belden 5000U 12awg speaker cable, and it's a HUGE improvement over the 14awg Monster cable I had previously. I won't claim that it sounds any better (though I don't doubt that it just might, I just didn't do an A/B comparison), but I'm much happier with the cable itself. While the stuff from Monster isn't junk, it's nothing special either. Belden and Canare, on the other hand, is great stuff. Another option is www.monoprice.com; good stuff, though arguably not as good as BlueJeans, but great prices.

Is it stupid that I don't like Blue Jeans and would prefer to buy from Best Deal Cables because I don't like their website design and layout? *Flame on!*

LOL. Yeah, I'm not very fond of their website either.

I used to work in a electronics store when I was in college.

For kicks, we took a knife and cut open the following cable brands:
Monster
MIT
AudioQuest
Radioshack Gold
IXOS

In terms of build quality both inside and out, I'd rank these brands in the following order:

WORST QUALITY
Monster
MIT
IXOS
Radioshack Gold
AudioQuest
BEST QUALITY

Of the major "name brands," the only one able to top RadioShack Gold's build quality was Audioquest. Monster Cable were our #1 most returned cable as well.

In other words, Monster is crap. If you want to get a good quality name brand interconnect, go with RadioShack Gold, Belkin PureAudio, or AudioQuest. Although, as posted above, I'd recommend RAM Electronics or Blue Jeans Cable as the best bang for buck at the moment.

Sub cable isn't too important anyway, though, aside from build quality.

I've heard great things about RadioShack's Gold. Thanks for the cable construction information. I was thinking about buying some Belkin cables, but maybe I'll spend a little more for the RadioShack Gold cables.
