Tips for installing on-wall speaker mounts

Well hopefully I'll get my HT back online this weekend. I just got my speaker mounts (B-TECH B77's) today. They'll give the room a cleaner look, as well as being alot more safe. Maybe my surrounds will sound a little better as well. I have my center channel on the wall as well, but that one was pretty easy - I just had to deal with one speaker.

I pretty much know my locations. The area I need some input on is where to measure from to ensure that the surrounds are as close to the same height as possible. Would it be better to measure from the ceiling or from the floor? My tv room is so out of whack. I swear to god, whoever did the basement did it in a day.

Also, when I had my surrounds on stands, I had them so that the driver was about 2ft. above the listening position. I'm guesstimating that they were about 5 ft. off the ground , give or take, to the top of the speaker. That was as far as I could extend the stands. Should I keep the surrounds at this height or raise them about another 2ft. or so? Right now I'm leaning to bumping the height up to another 2ft or slightly less. No more than that.

Why do you want to raise them any higher, I would say 5 feet is a good height? I would say that you should measure from both the ceiling and the floor to get the best setup possible.

I was thinking about raising them just so that they're more out of the way. If I kept them around the same height, that would be about chest high on me and I think that that would look a bit tacky when mounted to a wall.

If those mounts have the ability to let you swivel the speakers up/down & left/right, I would probably move them higher as well. You can then adjust the speakers angles to give you a nice envelope of sound.

If they are closer to the ceiling I would measure from the ceiling down. The best would be to make them level with each other but withourt a laser level that will be tough. As a general rule the ceiling should be more level than the floor in a basement.

Wait, are your rears directional speakers?

The mounts will enable me to move left or right 180 degrees, as well as tilt them up or down 7 degrees. Right now I'm leaning towards moving the speakers up a whole speaker height and that's it. That's roughly 1ft to 1 1/2 ft.

The speakers I have are just bookshelves - Polk Audio RT5's.
