Boston Acoustics VRC vs. VRMC?

Okay, BA's VRMC center channel appears to be discontinued and $200 at several locations. I have their VRC center, the VRMC belongs in their top end "M" series, but I'm unsure if it's worth the upgrade...?

VRC 3-Way Center: (what I'm sporting now)

VRMC (Lynnfield VR) 2-Way Center: (worth it?)

It seems like a tough call.

Well, it's got the same (or a very similar) tweeter so it'll be a good tibral match for your existing setup...with the VRMC you'll step up to a larger woofer which will probably allow the center to handle bass a little better and may help "anchor" the sound to the screen.

The VRMC is a bit less efficient than the VRC, meaning it will take a little more power to get it to play as loud, you're right....it really is a tough call.

If you buy it and don't find that it was a worthwhile upgrade will you be able to return it? That might be the deciding factor...

I agree with PunkMunkey and would add that BA's website should list what centers 'match' your mains, so I'd look at that as well.

I have VR-3 as mains.

Both the VRC and VR3s have newer VRHO aluminum tweeters, the VRMC has a Lynnfield aluminum tweeter.

I have plenty of power in my Outlaw amp to drive the VRMC. I've read old posts around the 'net stating the difference is subtle between the two centers, but I'm unsure what the people saying this were driving them with. Just to say the reason why the VRMC is "better" might be subdued to those driving it with average power. Or something, I'm babbling...

The VRMC is sexy though...

My VRC nude:

I will say the VRC can get a little lost in the front stage shuffle when the aura shit goes down.

Okay, I bit the bullet, $208 from Amazon (sold by OneCall), only two left in stock. Being only two in stock made me wonder how many OneCall actually have left. I'd hate to think I missed out, especially since the VRMC might actually mate with my VR3s better.

Funny that through OneCall directly the cheapest shipping option is $23, compared to $8 on Amazon (sold by OneCall)...

Well, it looks like it wasn't meant to be.

Greetings from Amazon.com,

We're sorry, but the following order from OneCall has been canceled
because the items you purchased were out of stock. Please return and
attempt to purchase again at a later time.

We apologize for any inconvenience.
Pretty stupid since I ordered this while Amazon stated it was "In Stock", but I'm not going to complain since the biggest reason I went for it was mainly aesthetics.

This frees me up somewhat to pursue what I really want, a new receiver/processor when the times comes. The wait is killing me.

Bummer dude I got my VRC off Ebay in what started out as a VR replacement of my CR series speakers, but I didn't winn the VR3s that I was bidding on. The VRC turned out to be a good idea as when I got my 65" Mits, the other centers I was looking at would not have fit under the shelf my GF wanted above the TV
