Cannot wait to set it up. I got it in black because I think it is more fitting for a beast than silver!

My current Parasound HCA-2205A power amp (220x5 @ 8ohms) will be relegated to driving my Stratus C6 Center, Image S50 surrounds, and newly added to the mix Stratus Mini rear speakers for a total of 7.1 channels. Based on enthusiast comments on AVSFORUM it appears some of the newer 7.1 mixes from New Line are actually taking advantage of the rear channels instead of the typical gimmick mixes I've heard in the past. We'll see how it goes paired with the DTC-9.8.

Though this amp has balanced input, I plan to run it unbalanced RCA since neither this amp nor my preamp are truly balanced internally.

Still haven't unpacked it yet

I need to modify my AV rack to get the beast to fit in it, and I probably won't be able to do that until next week!

BIG CONGRATS to you!!! Rotel makes some excellent sounding amps that are powerful and smooth sounding. I think you're going to be very happy with this paired up with your 9.8.

Even though the circuitry in your pre/pro and this amp aren't fully balanced in design, there are benefits to using XLR's. The most notable being the connections ability to reject noise. Even if it's going to be a short run, using XLR is IMO the preferred method.

Looking forward to your thoughts on your new amp. Thanks for sharing.

Enjoy!

Just hooked it up. It easily demolishes my Parasound HCA-2205A which is NOT an easy feat, when powering my Stratus Gold speakers. Pure audio bliss... I don't think there is a stereo amp that exists that realistically bests this one in any major way! Over the next few weeks I will reconfigure for 7.1...

re: zeph, the research on this unit indicates that the unbalanced inputs are better to use than balanced when using short runs (i.e. 12' and under). The balanced inputs are internally converted to unbalanced and suffer a voltage drop in the process apparently. Given that the amp is not true balanced design, I will be running 3' unbalanced RCA, and at that length I doubt there would be any noise rejection benefits balanced would offer that would compensate for the conversion issues.

Hey, that HCA, is it a two channel, or 5? If two, what are you going to do with it?

Well in your case it does seem that going the unbalanced RCA connection route is the preferred method. And yes, with the short runs you're using, you'll be just fine.

Happy to hear that you are TOTALLY enjoying your new amp.

Thanks for sharing your joy with us.
