Multi Region DVD Player FOR CHEAP!!!

Hey folks I discovered this deal over at DVDTALK.COM. Here's the link to the DVD PLAYER $58:

http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=16%2D3274

Instead of ordering online, go to the B & M store and pick it up. It's only supposed to play region 1 but here's the hack to make it play any region:

"turn on unit, make sure no disc is in tray, push menu 1, 9, then a screen comes up. Third line from bottom is region #. enter # of what region you want to play, or just push 0 for all region. "

I went to my local Radio Shack and picked it up. The hack does indeed work. Not only that but this thing lets me play DTS! My other player didn't do that. I though you needed some type of reciever to play DTS. Needless to say I am extremly happy with this player so far.

Cool, I read that thread and it sounds really great. It's nice and compact, too. I think I'll pick one up tomorrow.

From what I read, it stretches the widescreen pal. But full screen Pal is all right.

Can someone explain to me what "Progressive Scan" means?

It worked with a hack. I tested my freinds R3 gozilla dvd, it worked. Since their the same model they should all work.

How do you test it? Well, I broke down and ordered a copy of The Last Unicorn from Amazon.DE for what ends up to be $40-ish (half of it was shipping!). I guess I end up spending almost as much on the disc as I do on the player...which I'm not sure I like, but I've got 30 days to return it, right?

And then I can always get a Malata, which I was planning to do anyway. But maybe this will work instead.

Hey, don't forget there's a $10 mail-in rebate on this puppy, which means a net price of $48!!

When I got home yesterday, my German copy of The Last Unicorn was waiting in my mailbox.

Fantastic! Thank you, oh, thank you for the recommendation of this cool little player. Not a perfect player, but very very VERY nice for the price!

My wife was EVER so grateful that I found a way for her to enjoy one of her favoritest movies ever, and it all worked like a charm. I also enjoyed the ability to watch the source of my avatar in OAR and with great sound (haven't hooked up the player to 5.1 yet, though...a project for this weekend, AFTER I read the new Harry Potter book!). Also, my son got sucked in, too. A new fan!

Thanks again!

I went to Radio Shack today and picked up the last one in the area. They told me they didn't have any, but the guy went in the back and found one for me.

Aside from smelling funny ( ), it's really cool for a $50 DVD player. It looks nice, too. If only I had some non-region 1 DVDs...

I'm going to my local Radio Shack later on this week and pick one up, that is, if they got them. I'll call in advance first.

If they do have any, you can damn well bet I'm going pick one up. It'll be great to *finally* get a player that can be region free and get some of the great region 2,3 and 4 dvds besides the region 1 and 0 discs.

My 1st purchase would be the Uncut Friday the 13th dvd. I can deal with a little stretching.

OK, so, just to clarify... This thing will play not only any region DVDs, but also will convert a PAL (or other format, like SECAM, etc.) to NTSC? It seems that this is the case based on what I'm reading...

Thanks!

I think it's limited to PAL to NTSC conversion. But, yeah, it does that.

I just watched Battle Royale, and it looked pretty damn good. The framerate suffers a little from the PAL conversion, but it doesn't detract from the viewability, in my opinion. There might be some stretching, too, but it isn't too noticeable. I'm very, very satisfied with the player.

Great movie, too

I think they have this same one at best buy....I think I they had it for $55...not sure if its the EXACT same, or if they still sell it, but they did. It was cyberhome, and you could set it to region 0.
