Amazon vs. DVDExpress?
Hi, I have just been doing some price comparisons between Amazon and Dvdexpress. The result was that out of 30 movies I have on my 'wanted' list, 27 of them had the same price on both sites? So much for competition.....
Anyone have any input on this? |

I'm afraid Amazon is right out for me, since they charge tax for Washington state residents like me. It's about the same as paying for shipping twice normally, but for the X-Files Season 2, that tax is $8! I've had zero problems with Express.com, and that's worth A LOT!

Well, they both average 30% off, which explains the similar prices. express usually has a lot more preorders listed. express also charges shipping by the disc for multi-disc sets, but I don't think amazon does. Express is also a Brands for Less affiliate, so if you buy $50 at a time, you can get the shipping rebated.

I've shoped both but I've had the best luck with 800.com. Every new release has arived on my doorstep on or the day before the release date. Plus if you check often you can save even more I believe I got James Bond set 1 for 40% off... I don't shop at Amazon for the tax reason. My backup has been buy.com but they have deliver problems off and on I think I've had 2 case where it took 3 weeks to get a DVD. 800.com every once in a while also has free shipping which even makes them a better deal.

Well here is my 10 cents worth:
Amazon - the old reliable on the market, has a good supply, nice features to rate your purchases so it can recommend titles you might like, plus the ability to customize line items AFTER you've placed the order. DVD Express - the place to go for pre orders before other sites have them. Many times they upgrade your shipping to 2nd day with 6 or more items at regular shipping cost. Other places: DVDPlanet (was Ken Cranes); best selection of DTS CDs and many hard to get items. Currently though, BUY.COM has low prices on many titles (around 40% off), and fairly low shipping. hope this helps. ------------------ Thanks. Paul H. |
