Opinons of Overstock.com??

I've been looking at Overstock.com and have noticed that alot of their prices are considerably better than Amazon (especially on Box Sets). So I was wondering if anyone here had ever ordered from them and if so how was the service, shipping time, etc. I'm seriously considering picking up the Akira Kurosawa box set as well as the Wrong Men & Notorious Women set so I would really like to make sure their a reputable business before I spend that much money.

I've probably used them 3, maybe 4 times & I've been quite satisfied with their prices, shipping time, etc... I'd recommend them.

my first experience with them was with a box set. They shipped it way BEFORE the street date, and I was more than happy. Ordered 3 more box sets since then, all with no problems. Packaging was very sturdy (although, I don't think anything beats Amazon's "nail-this-box-set-to-the-box-and-make-it-survive-a-nuclear-blast" packaging).

in other words, based on my experience, go for it...

I've bought both CDs and DVDs from them with no problem. Just received a CD from them on Saturday, actually.

Got the wrong men hitchcock set from them for $80.00- arrived in 3 business days, which was quick for free shiiping, arrived in fine shape, cheapest place to get that hitchcock box- I would reccommend doing so. You might even want to get 2 copies and wait a few months, then sell the 3 OOP dvds on ebay and make some cash.

That's odd...

They have the Alien Quadrilogy listed as the old Alien Legacy.

I've ordered from them a few times and never had a problem. They are pretty reliable, some of their prices are great, and their items arrived in very good condition.

DVDs or CDs I'd recommend.

However, if you buy any large electronics, ie microwave, they sell old models that aren't usually covered by any warranty. However, they will refund if their is a problem.

This has been my experience also. My wife and I have about 4-5 orders with them. They delivered quickly (2-6 business days) and I had no problems with the orders. Well-packed. The last thing I got from them was the Warner Legends box. Picked it up with a coupon for something like $44 shipped, and it was mailed right out, at a time when it was out of stock just about everywhere else.

They reneged on their Gotcha DVD order for me - according to their email, they "sold an item they didn't have".
That wouldn't have been much of an issue, but they charge your account right as they process it, unlike many etailers.

However, I just received my refund order fine, and I'm now waiting for the TTT: EE order to come thru - if it comes in a timely fashion, I'll be satisifed enough to consider doing business again.

Yeah, this is the one major negative aspect of their business. I try to avoid pre-orders with them unless the price is really outstanding for this reason.

Where? Can't find it on the site.

EDIT: Found it. Didn't realize you have to go on the main CDs, Movies, etc., page.

yeah - the order I just received from them was interesting:
for my $3.39 credit from the Gotcha order, + $5 credit they gave me, +$1.14 more I got 3 DVD's and 2 VHS:

AFI - Terry Gilliams Director's Chair DVD
Sports Illustrated 2001 Swimsuit DVD and VHS
Sports Illustrated 2002 Swimsuit DVD and VHS

I think the last 2 would make good gifts...

Another overstock recommendation here,

Pretty good prices all around, I used their 10% off and $5 off coupons a couple times to good effect, and their shipping costs are very reasonable.

I've ordered all different kinds of configurations from them and all arrived in a timely and well-packaged manner:

Run of the mill dvds (Cube, Lock up, Hard Times, To Live)
Criterions (Down By Law)
Box sets (Audrey Hepburn Collection)
Pre-Orders (Indiana Jones)

The only drawback, as most have pointed out already, is that you get locked in on pre-orders but for the $37 dollars I got the IJ set for, it's not a huge deal for me.
